Field Geology Camp During this one-week camp, students will get to explore the beautiful outdoors of the Roaring Fork Valley while discovering the geology that shapes this unique landscape. Led by Dr. Sally, a geology professor from Southern Illinois University and from the valley, kids will visit exciting geological sites, from rocky cliffs to scenic riversides, to uncover how the earth has been shaped over millions of years. Students will learn about geologic time, the different types of rocks in the valley and how they were formed, and even investigate how water moves underground and what it dissolves! The highlight of the camp will be an outdoor project where students will work in the field, discovering the environments in which the valley's sedimentary rocks were deposited. This camp combines adventure, exploration, and science in a fun and interactive way!
